JERUSALEM, July 14 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli army said on Saturday that it carried out airstrikes on targets in the Gaza Strip, including two tunnels and several Hamas military sites.
The airstrikes were launched in response to the rockets and mortar shells fired from Gaza toward communities in southern Israel, as well as various other Hamas-led acts, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement.
At least 31 rockets and mortars were fired toward Israel from the Gaza Strip between Friday midnight and early Saturday morning, according to the IDF.
Six of them were intercepted by the Iron Dome system, it added.
The military targets in Gaza include "complexes used to prepare arson attacks and a Hamas training facility," said the Israeli army.
So far, there has been no reports of casualties on both Israeli and Gaza sides.
On Friday, a 15-year-old Palestinian was killed during the clashes with Israeli troops along the Gaza border, which also wounded about 220 others, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.
At least 137 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire since March 400, the first day of the ongoing Palestinian "Great March of Return" rally against Israel's 11-year crippling blockade and the U.S. embassy move to the disputed holy city of Jerusalem, the Gaza-based ministry said.
